Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD)
When the Temporomandibular Joint does not function correctly it is a called Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD). The most common cause of TMD is Malocclusion, otherwise more commonly referred to as a “bad bite.” In this case, your upper and lower teeth are misaligned and do not close in the correct way, whether functioning or at rest.

When the teeth and jaw are out of alignment, even very slightly, they cannot support the muscles in the face needed to chew, swallow, talk, etc. These muscles are then forced into a more strained position that can cause pain throughout the head, face, neck, shoulders, arms and back.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve had horrible migraines. At age of 17, I started taking Imitrex shots. They made me incredibly nauseous and the headache still remained. Later on I started taking the Imitrex pills. On average I would take about 3-4 a week and at $200 bucks for 9 pills, the cost added up. Not to mention the fact that I would miss out on work the days that I would have to take the pills. My doctor sent me to neurologists who gave me numerous CAT Scans, MRIs, and allergy tests but to no avail. No one could find out what was supposedly wrong with me. The final conclusion for years was that I simply just get migraines and that there was nothing I could do about it. Sadly, I accepted this as fact and learned to live with the headaches.
