There are many health advantages to porcelain fillings as well as the aesthetic advantages. Porcelain does not contain any mercury and does not expand and contract with changing temperature. Traditional metal fillings may contain mercury and they weaken the teeth over time because they expand with heat and contract with cold temperatures. This weakening may lead to cracking of the tooth and the tooth may be lost. Porcelain helps hold the tooth together and adds strength. Your teeth will be stronger with porcelain fillings and never weaken over time.

Metal fillings have a tendency to discolor teeth and teeth whitening treatments may not be able to correct the discoloration.
